7 Things to Do When Your Body is Begging You to Chill
Maybe it’s because daylight savings time was this weekend, or maybe it’s because my allergies are in full force, but I have been struggling for the past few days.
You know that feeling when your body just says “I don’t’ wanna” like a toddler? The kind where your eyelids weigh 500 pounds, your brain feels like a dial-up internet connection, and your joints make noises only haunted houses should? Yeah, that’s your body saying, “Hey, mama, maybe stop trying to run life like a chaotic circus act for five minutes?”
So, if you’re teetering on the edge, or just feel like you need a boost, but struggle with actually resting, here are 7 things you can do to hit pause without feeling like you are just being lazy for no reason.
1. Do some yoga nidra
I once told a yoga teacher I booked yoga nidra at a retreat and her response was “oh good, you are going to get a great nap!” When she said this, I was confused, but after taking part, I fully understood. It’s like going into a very relaxing mediative practice. So…you can say you meditated.
2. Listen to a Podcast
Any podcast doesn’t matter. This can be compared to an audiobook. They are close enough to the same thing-providing information, right?
3. Put on some of those Gold Eye Masks
Not only are they gold and sparkly (fun!) they feel great. If you are like me and have a usual routine, but forget the fancier stuff, this is your time to shine. In a good way that is.
4. Watch a Nostalgic TV Show
There’s something deeply healing about rewatching Friends for me. It got me thorough various times and feels like a warm blanket. Sitcoms might be a thing of the past, but I can dream of their return…one day.
5. Take a Walk to your Favorite Place
Have a video of your favorite place in the world? Or dreaming of a certain destination? There’s plenty of pov videos on YouTube to make your dream a reality. Recently I stayed at a hotel where the treadmill showed hikes in different places around the world, and I was surprised at how long I walked using this fun method. FYI you don’t need a walking pad or treadmill for this, you can even just walk in place at home.
6. Watch a Documentary on Something You’ll Never Actually Do
Selling your house and traveling the globe in an RV with your family? Moving to a remote location with no wi-fi? Free-climbing Everest? Living off-grid in the Alaskan wilderness? Love that journey for them, but I’m staying right here under this blanket.
7. Take a Wellbeing Day
You don’t have to be sick sick to take a day off. You can just be I’m Ready for a Break sick. Society has historically ignored this kind of sickness, but I’m here to help it flourish. It’s better to recognize that you need a break, and take one, than to fully burn out.
Final Thoughts
Slowing down doesn’t have to mean stopping entirely. It just means shifting gears before your body forces you to. So, the next time you feel like you’re running on fumes, try one (or all) of these options and embrace the fine art of strategic laziness.
Now, excuse me while I do some yoga nidra.
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
